{"id":728,"date":"2009-12-01T08:10:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-01T08:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rbicmsblog.reedbusiness.com\/elogic_660000266\/2009\/12\/01\/henparty-a-new-font-on-the-block\/"},"modified":"2009-12-01T08:10:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-01T08:10:00","slug":"henparty-a-new-font-on-the-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/?p=728","title":{"rendered":"Henparty: A New Font on the Block"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/henparty4.jpg\" alt=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/henparty3.jpg\" alt=\"\">While I don&#8217;t know that I qualify as a bona fide &quot;font junkie,&quot; it is true that I&#8217;ve got a thing for typography.&nbsp;I&#8217;m considerably&nbsp;irked&nbsp;by book&nbsp;covers or ads that sport poorly chosen type, and am considerably warmed by sightings of good type, well-chosen and carefully placed.<\/p>\n<p> For the past&nbsp;year or so&nbsp;I&#8217;ve been charmed by frequent sightings of Henparty, a playful font family of two created by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tartworkshop.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tart Workshop<\/a>&nbsp;(a collaboration by artist\/illustrator <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crystalkluge.com\/crystalkluge\/crystal_kluge_lettering_&amp;_illustration.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crystal Kluge<\/a> and type designer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontdiner.com\/interview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuart Sandler<\/a>). It&nbsp;includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontbros.com\/cgi-bin\/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&amp;key=TART-HESA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henparty Sans<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontbros.com\/cgi-bin\/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&amp;key=TART-HESE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henparty Serif<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;warrants a&nbsp;mention&nbsp;here because recent book sightings have shown that a number of designers are&nbsp;also under&nbsp;its spell.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091201\/friendlikeyou.jpg\" alt=\"\">Henparty&nbsp;plays a prominent role in the design for Tanja Askani&#8217;s new picture book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scholasticreview.com\/rights\/book.asp?productid=6620\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Friend Like You<\/a><\/em> (Scholastic, December 2009). It&#8217;s the font used throughout the book in bold, oversized type, and it&#8217;s also featured on the book&#8217;s cover.<\/p>\n<p> Henparty also appears as the title font on two galleys I just received: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/catalog\/display.pperl?isbn=9781606840962\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Things I Know About Love<\/a><\/em> by Kate Le Vann (Egmont, June 2010)&nbsp;and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/catalog\/display.pperl?isbn=9780375893032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunshine Picklelime<\/a><\/em> by Pamela Ellen Ferguson (Random House, June 2010).<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/henparty5a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/henparty6a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p> Have you spotted Henparty in other places? The fact that I&#8217;ve seen three sightings in such close pub date proximity makes me suspect that there will be more. Please report them here if you see them!<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime I&#8217;ll be drooling over a newer Tart Workshop creation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crystalkluge.com\/nelly_script.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nelly Script<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/nellyscript.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p> and falling for everything printed with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontbros.com\/cgi-bin\/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&amp;key=SUDT-MISC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milk Script<\/a> from Sudtipos and&#8230;<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091130\/milkscript.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p> loving <a href=\"http:\/\/new.myfonts.com\/fonts\/dear-alison\/slim-pickens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slim Pickens<\/a> from Alison Argento.
