In all I think I&#8217;ve made close to 20 of these, almost all of them as gifts for other people. Among the few still in my possession, though, are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/blog\/ShelfTalker_A_Children_s_Bookseller_s_Blog\/28902-A_Book_Fiesta_for_My_Birthday.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my very first bookish birdhouse<\/a> (from <em>Book Fiesta<\/em>) and this one, created using <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellesleybooksmith-shop.com\/book\/9780064434515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bedtime for Frances<\/a><\/em>, a book written by Russell Hoban, illustrated by Garth Williams, and very dear to my heart.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrancesabovefront-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrancesabovefront.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>front<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrancesfront1-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrancesfront1.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>left<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrancesleft2-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrancesleft2.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>back<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrancesback-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrancesback.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>right<\/em> (What you can&#8217;t see here is the crack in the ceiling that Frances is staring at, fearfully, from her place on the bed below. The crack is visible on the birdhouse, though, if you look up under the overhanging portion of the roof!)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrancesright-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrancesright.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>ta da!<\/em> (I&#8217;m so pleased with this one.)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/smfrances1-2.jpg\" alt=\"smfrances1.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThe next birdhouse, below, was in a previous life an F&amp;G for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellesleybooksmith-shop.com\/book\/9780152058340\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Mary Poppins from A to Z<\/em><\/a> written by P. L. Travers and illustrated by Mary Shepard. Now, it is a birdhouse in the home of Jane Kohuth, one of our wonderful children&#8217;s booksellers who is also a soon-to-be author. (Random House recently acquired 2 books by her!) Funny thing: I chose Mary Poppins because Jane is fond of classic illustrated children&#8217;s novels in this vein. I&#8217;ll also put together a how-to if any of you want more than\u00a0my quick &amp; dirty set of instructions, which are:<br \/>\n1. Buy cheap birdhouse.<br \/>\n2. Remove perches.<br \/>\n3. Paint it.<br \/>\n4. Glue pages to it.<br \/>\n5.
