{"id":432,"date":"2009-12-09T08:10:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-09T08:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rbicmsblog.reedbusiness.com\/elogic_660000266\/2009\/12\/09\/who-the-wild-things-have-inspired\/"},"modified":"2009-12-09T08:10:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-09T08:10:00","slug":"who-the-wild-things-have-inspired","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/?p=432","title":{"rendered":"Who the Wild Things Have Inspired"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that the <a href=\"http:\/\/wherethewildthingsare.warnerbros.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spike Jonze <em>Wild Things<\/em> movie<\/a> has worked its way to the cheap theaters, I think it&#8217;s time I did a round-up of some of the creative outpouring I&#8217;ve been seeing online from adults who were inspired by <em>Where the Wild Things Are<\/em> in book form, as&nbsp;children, and\/or as parents. The&nbsp;anticipation of and enthusiasm for&nbsp;Jonze&#8217;s film has lately inspired a great number of these folks&nbsp;to pay tribute to Sendak&#8217;s most beloved book, proving that has indeed been a VERY influential and important for the generations fortunate enough to know it.<\/p>\n<p> Most of you have probably already spent some time perusing the artwork featured at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terribleyelloweyes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Terrible Yellow Eyes<\/a> and recently showcased at L.A. gallery <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallerynucleus.com\/gallery\/artists?letter=j\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nucleus<\/a>. If you haven&#8217;t, go look now!<\/p>\n<p> Vice has created a similar blog called <a href=\"http:\/\/wherethewildthingsare.viceland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">24 Artists Inspired by Where the Wild Things Are<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> Photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/wecouldgrowuptogether.blogspot.com\/2009\/09\/roared-their-terrible-roars.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kwannam Chu<\/a> did a Wild Things-inspired photoshoot for <em>Economic Journal.<br \/><\/em><br \/> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casasugar.com\/5329504\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casa Sugar<\/a> features Wild Things-inspired home accessories. I particularly like the &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ylighting.com\/bkl-shadyforest-55.html?CJAID=10529622&amp;CJPID=2178999&amp;CJSID=103502322\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shady Tree Forrest [sic] Pendant<\/a>.&quot; Or rather, I&nbsp;<em>would<\/em> particularly like it, if I weren&#8217;t appalled by its $638.40 price point.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091108\/lamp.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/blogs\/the-thread\/THREAD-Wild-Things-Collection-Hits-Opening-Ceremony-61455047.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Thread<\/a> (which calls itself &quot;The Inside Line on New York Fashion&quot;) has a slide show of fashions inspired by the film.<\/p>\n<p> My favorite feature, though, is a list of Wild Things crafts featured on <a href=\"http:\/\/belladia.typepad.com\/crafty_crow\/2009\/10\/where-the-wild-things-are-crafts-treats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Crafty Crow<\/a>. There are SO many fun crafts pulled together for this post, all linked to&nbsp;tutorials posted by their respective bloggers. I&#8217;ve posted three examples below. Click on them to go to the Crafty Crow&#8217;s post, and from there you can travel to more info. about each of them.<\/p>\n<p> Cardboard tubes have never looked cuter.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/belladia.typepad.com\/crafty_crow\/2009\/10\/where-the-wild-things-are-crafts-treats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091108\/tubepuppets.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p> Cupcakes have never been more awesome.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/belladia.typepad.com\/crafty_crow\/2009\/10\/where-the-wild-things-are-crafts-treats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091108\/cupcakes.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p> And who could resist a tote like this?<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/belladia.typepad.com\/crafty_crow\/2009\/10\/where-the-wild-things-are-crafts-treats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publishersweekly.com\/articles\/blog\/660000266\/20091108\/tote.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p> Finally, whether you&#8217;ve seen the film or not, be sure to pay a visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/weloveyouso.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We Love You So<\/a>, a blog created &quot;to help shed some light on many of the small influences that have converged to make [Spike Jonze&rsquo;s feature film rendition of Maurice Sendak&rsquo;s classic story <a href=\"http:\/\/wherethewildthingsare.warnerbros.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Warner Brothers: Where The Wild Things Are\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Where the Wild Things Are<\/em><\/a>] a reality.&quot; There has been such a fun mix of creative posts on this blog &#8212; few of them obviously related to the film, but all of them eye-opening and\/or entertaining.
