So what&#8217;s on their minds for 2020? <img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bookpeople.com\/sites\/bookpeople.com\/files\/20181208_132433.jpg\" width=\"409\" height=\"230\" \/>Well, they don&#8217;t always agree, but from frustration with trends to protectiveness over favorite covers they don&#8217;t think need changing, they&#8217;re heading into the next decade as opinionated as ever.\u00a0Take a look at what they\u2019re loving (and hating) below, and make sure you stop by their carefully curated year-round display of recommended reads if you&#8217;re ever in town.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>What do you want more of in 2020?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cMore retellings of Chinese folklore would be amazing!\u201d \u2013 Ming<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI love retellings, but I want more obscure retellings, not the ones we see over and over again.\u201d \u2013 Liri<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI want to see anthologies promoted more. There are some really interesting anthologies coming out constantly, but they don\u2019t get the same marketing that other books do.\u201d \u2013 Xander<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMore Harry Potter translations! If Scholastic sees this\u2026 please make it happen.\u201d \u2013 Xander<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBooks that address relevant, important issues in life.\u201d\u2013\u00a0Colleen<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI want more time.\u201d \u2013 Liri<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/TPC-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-32026 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.publishersweekly.com\/blogs\/shelftalker\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/TPC-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"315\" \/><\/a>HEY PUBLISHERS, LISTEN UP:\u00a0\u201cI want publications to be more spread out\u2014why don\u2019t more good books come out in December?\u201d \u2013 Colleen<br \/>\n<strong>Do you ever pre-order books, and why?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIt just doesn\u2019t compare with the feeling of coming into the bookstore on pub day and getting the book off the shelf.\u201d \u2013 Colleen<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019ve only ever preordered books if they come with an exclusive chapter or sneak peek\u2026 or REALLY good swag.\u201d \u2013 Xander<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CONSENSUS: *Shrug*<br \/>\n<strong>What about covers? What are you most drawn to right now?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI love drawings of people but not photos of real people.\u201d \u2013Liri<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI like obscure covers that portray the mood or tone of the book.\u201d \u2013Colleen<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOnly graphic novels should have covers that LOOK like graphic novels.\u201d \u2013Rosie<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be too busy, I like a minimalist cover.\u201d \u2013Riley<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI really like when there are little clues or Easter eggs on the cover.\u201d \u2013Fatimah<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CONSENSUS: Ummm&#8230; none? Good luck, publishers!<br \/>\n<strong>How do you feel\u00a0about repackages of beloved series, like the newly released Marissa Meyer cover art<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe covers are beautiful, but they look like fan art. They don&#8217;t portray the intensity o<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/EK0bzjDXUAE6QpB.jpg\" width=\"311\" height=\"311\" \/>f the series.\u201d \u2013Colleen<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThese would have been pretty as an insert.\u201d \u2013Rosie<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe old covers were iconic, so repackaging seems unnecessary.\u201d \u2013Xander<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CONSENSUS:\u00a0Who likes change anyway?<br \/>\n<strong>What do you want less of in 2020?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cDystopia in general\u201d \u2013 Fatimah<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOne million Rick Riordan stamped books. I\u2019m never going to have enough time to read them all!\u201d \u2013 Colleen<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYA horror?
