We love these days because people want\u00a0the beautiful books, the hardcovers and art books and decadent thick tomes\u00a0with gilt-edged pages and fancy\u00a0cookbooks (hello, <em>Nopi<\/em>) and other delicious gift-worthy gorgeous heavy satiny-in-the-hand BOOKS.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nYesterday, a customer came to the counter with a large and luscious stack that included the new illustrated <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780545790352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harry Potter<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780545448680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Marvels<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9781423183655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Percy Jackson&#8217;s Greek Heroes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9781590178706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mio, My Son<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780688110871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alice&#8217;s Adventures in Wonderland<\/a> (two copies, and my favorite version), <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780374235253\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Poetry of Yehuda Amichai<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780763682071\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Counting Lions<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780544668256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thing Explainer<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780062371218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Tale of Highly Peculiar Magic<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9781250049551\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carry On<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9781620408339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Watchmaker of Filigree Street<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/site.booksite.com\/7087\/showdetail\/?isbn=9780062229182\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Listen, Slowly<\/a>.<br \/>\n&#8220;You&#8217;ve got some lovely books here,&#8221; I said, stowing them carefully in the canvas tote\u00a0the customer had earned with her purchase.<br \/>\n&#8220;I was gift-failing until I came here,&#8221; she said, using a phrase I&#8217;d never heard before but instantly adopted. &#8220;I went to three or four places and came up with nothing. I <em>love<\/em> shopping here.&#8221;<br \/>\nMusic to a bookseller&#8217;s\u00a0ears. I&#8217;m sure every indie bookstore hears this\u00a0kind of comment throughout the season. I know we do, and are so grateful to hear it. Nothing makes us\u00a0happier than to provide a clean, bright, cheerful, calm, one-stop-shopping oasis\u2014chock-full of worthy books\u2014in the storm of holiday craziness, depressing warehouse stores, and disconnected (if convenient) online buying.
