- Nebula nominees! A really good slate this year. (Want to be there? The rate is about to go up for the Nebula Awards Weekend, so register now.)
- Stoker nominees! Snarkily annotated by Nick Mamatas.
- Kate Beaton answers your questions about being a professional comics/cartoon artist.
- Ellen Datlow’s anthology Wild Justice, formerly available only in the U.K. (as Lethal Kisses), is now up as an e-book for U.S. readers.
- Crossed Genres is open to submissions for an SF anthology about skilled labor and laborers.
- Hard Case Crime has published the last-ever Donald Westlake novel, from a posthumously discovered manuscript. Apparently it’s pretty terrific.
- A tipster writes, “Just to let you know that the Change of Hobbit [sic], a bookstore in Berkeley, CA specializing in SF and Fantasy, is in dire straits and has closed its doors. Apparently they are $15K behind on their state taxes and need to raise the money before they can open again.” I assume they’re referring to the Other Change of Hobbit. Anyone know more about this? The website hasn’t been updated in nearly a year.
- Some loons put together a magazine from start to finish in 24 hours.
I phoned “The Other Change of Hobbit” and left a message, but they haven’t gotten back to me. Although the website hasn’t been updated, the site is not totally inactive.
No reply to my email yet either.
According to a correspondent,
http://sfbayarea.dreamwidth.org/9376.html
has more info about the Other Change of Hobbit situation. Apparently it’s a state tax conflict; until the tax is paid, the store cannot resume selling books.
