It’s official: Josh and I will be in Chicago for Worldcon this fall! I’m hoping we’ll be able to take some time before and after to hang out with local friends and see the sights.

I’m going as an official PW emissary and Josh will be resuming the mantle of Genreville blogger for the occasion, which means it’s our job to scout out all the most interesting news and gossip at the convention. If that happens to happen over lunch or tea with wonderful people, so much the better.
Other cons this year:
- Arisia: We gafiated and were very glad of the break after four straight years of hardcore volunteering. We’ll be back in 2013.
- Readercon: We will of course be there, since I’m the program chair.
- RWA: Not this year, alas.
- World Fantasy: I will if I can. Not sure yet.

You’re in for a treat at Chicon! That weekend is a great time weather-wise, usually dry and mid-to-high 70s down to low 60s. Of course you’ll be inside most of the time, and the weather can always turn spiteful there as anywhere. But take some time to walk around, plenty of interesting places just blocks away.
And yes it does live up to its rep as the Windy City, at least where you’ll be. Just a few blocks to the east is Lake Michigan, and that plus the tall buildings can sometimes really funnel the breezes near the Hyatt.

Wow, it’ll be exactly 40 years since PW published my report on the 1972 Worldcon in Los Angeles. See you there!
I would take that weather forecast with a grain of salt, but you’ll mostly be inside. If I were you, I’d take a boat ride on the Chicago River, see lots of great Chicago School architecture.
I don’t want to take up much of your time, but I’ve been grateful for the coverage that PW has been giving my books so I definitely wanted to meet you guys and at least say hi!!!! -T.C.
