Today I’d like to introduce our newest blurber, Olivia. She is 11 years old and in 6th grade. She loves sports and excels at baseball. She’s a wild and crazy girl who also loves to read. When she came over to check out my YA books, she was like a little kid in a candy store and quickly filled up her bag with books. Olivia will be attending the Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Luncheon April 10th where she’s thrilled to be meeting “real” authors. Welcome, Olivia!
Firelight by Kristen Callihan

Lord Benjamin Archer is a denizen of the night, a man cloaked in masks and darkness. No one knows what terrible disfigurement he must hide beneath his masks, but he’s a powerful man of consequence that everyone fears. When Miranda Ellis finds herself virtually sold into marriage with him, she goes along with it, for she has dangerous secrets of her own, and counts on her abilities with her own supernatural gift to keep her safe as she tries to discover Archer’s secrets.
Kristen Callihan does a terrific job at keeping her readers intrigued and captivated, for the secrets keep swirling around and stay there, and even the reader doesn’t know for sure what these characters hide. The Victorian-era paranormal is mysterious, provocative and romantic. Firelight, and its e-book prequel, Ember, make interesting first books for this new author.

On Violet Eden’s 17th birthday she turns into a Grigori, which is half angel and half human. She has to embrace herself so she can heal her partner Lincoln. Together they have to kill the exiles. While Violet is attracted to an exile angel she also has feelings for Lincoln which is forbidden, causing her all kinds of problems.
I had a ball reading this book, the love triangle kept me guessing, which makes me want to read faster. The premise between half angel and half human was fascinating for me. Waiting till September for the next book is way to long.
A Town Called Valentine by Emma Cane
Read by Sheila
Broke and recovering from a painful divorce, Emily Murphy comes to Valentine, Colorado, to sell property she inherited and get back to San Francisco. On her first night in town, she plays a hot game of pool with a local cowboy, thinking she’ll never see him again. However, her property has been damaged by previous renters and she must stay in Valentine longer than she thought. As that cowboy, rancher Nate Thalberg, helps renovate the building, Emily learns family secrets, meets the good people of Valentine, and forms a new vision of the life she really wants.
This heart-warmer hooked me from page one to “The End.” I love the Valentine residents, like Nate’s grandmother, a flower store owner who befriends Emily, and, of course, that hot rancher. I felt for and cheered for Emily as she opened her heart. The warmth in this book gave me goosebumps and left me feeling a little giddy. It’s first in a series—yay!
The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride by Cindy Spencer Pape

On a dangerously blizzard-y Wyoming winter day, ranch owner CJ Hall opens his front door to a bedraggled looking woman in a wedding dress, and takes her in from the storm. Washington D.C. raised Allison Kendricks had found herself lost in the middle of nowhere after running away from her wedding founded on newly discovered false pretenses. CJ, who has a serious aversion to city girls, finds Allison distractingly attractive as she lends a hand to help at the snow-isolated ranch, caring for the man and his infant nephew, and opening up new possibilities.
This was Book One in the Love at the Crazy H trilogy, all three of which I read one after the other, stopping only to sleep and to go to work. Crazy for the Cowboy and Always a Cowboy were just as cute, romantic and heartwarming as the first. I love light-hearted cowboy romances, and these were delightful and tickled my fancy.
Bottom Line: I’m just so tickled to have another YA reader…I love hooking them young.
