Everyone is a Reader…

Barbara Vey -- January 24th, 2013

This is my absolutely favorite picture of the day from Facebook (no, there are no cats or dogs in it).

I cringe every time someone tells me that they don’t read.  Well, this is what I choose to believe:

.

.

Bottom Line:  I’m framing this.

I don’t cringe, I challenge anyone who says that. “Do you read websites? Do you read your email? Do you read newspapers or magazines? Guess, what, if you do, you are a reader. You just may not like to read fiction.”

Why do so many people equate reading with fiction? My teenage son LOVES to read – but he doesn’t enjoy reading fiction. He reads comics and nonfiction. He IS a reader!

Kat Kan, I guess I find the difference in being able to read and reading a book. I probably should have said that I cringe when I hear that people don’t like to read books. The same as some people cringe when they hear others don’t like baseball, football, rodeos or horror movies. I’m happy with anyone reading anything. I have one son who loves fiction and another who doesn’t. Love them both and glad they have things they enjoy doing, but it would be wonderful to share my excitement over a terrific book with them.

I admit I’m passionate about reading books. It saddens me that many in my family don’t read books. But I choose to hold out hope that someday they do find that special book that opens a new world to them to give them some of the joy I receive when I read a good book. Just my wish and my opinion.

To me a “reader” is someone who chooses to read for pleasure and can regularly be found with their nose in a book. Thus, I am a reader but my wife is not. She’s read books she liked and she enjoys the audio books I force on the family on long drives, but she chooses to fill her spare time otherwise. And as it has turned out, two of our children are readers and two are not – despite my best efforts!

Pretty cool Mr. Elliot. I’m starved for missives from the mailbox. I’ll admit it, I even open junk mail. (Hey, maybe it’s a check with a lot of zeros at the end.) Such a sad existence for me when my 1 a small rush of importance is ripping open junk mail. Bills can wait around, so a real letter sounds excellent. Will subscribe.
