Yes, It’s Time for Christmas Books

Barbara Vey -- September 10th, 2012

It now officially feels like autumn around here.  Last night the temperatures dropped into the 50s and it smells like sweater weather.  Even though we had an unusually hot summer, I’m always sad to see it come to an end.  Oh, I like how pretty the trees look when the leaves change, but it’s such a short time until they’re bare and winter comes rolling in.  And I really dislike cold weather more and more as the years go by.

.

The cooler breezes aren’t the only thing coming into my house lately.  Christmas books have begun to arrive.  I love reading Christmas books, but I especially like to read them when the tree is trimmed, evergreen and cinnamon candles are burning and I’m sipping a hot chocolate with whipped cream.  It really puts me in the mood.

.

Next month the WW Ladies will let us know what they think of the Christmas books they’re reading.  Some of the books I’ve seen so far are A Christmas Bride by Susan Mallery, My Kind of Christmas by Robyn Carr, Twas the Night After Christmas by Sabrina Jeffries, A Little Holiday Temptation by Janice Sims, Mistletoe Cowboy by Carolyn Brown and A Wreath of Snow by Liz Curtis Higgs.

The Christmas books start coming out in October, much like when the stores start putting out their Christmas stock.  I’ve always loved to buy the little Christmas books to use as stocking stuffers, but even though I understand the reasoning in retail, I hate to see the seasons rushed.  How about you?

.

I’m sure I just touched the tip of the iceberg with the Christmas books I mentioned, so please, let everyone know what other Christmas books will be coming out this year by posting the titles and authors in comments.  I’ll put the list together and post it again when the WW Ladies write about their Christmas books.

.

Bottom Line:  Maybe I’ll crank up the air conditioning, light some candles and put the burning Yule log DVD on to put me in the Christmas mood while reading some of these books.

Oh, I’m particularly excited about the Robyn Carr! I just finished one of her Virgin River books and she’s very quickly becoming a super fave of mine.

I’m in a Christmas trilogy coming up – the trilogy name is Holiday Miracles and it’s from Harlequin Romance. The other two authors are Fiona Harper and Shirley Jump and we had a ball writing it. First book is out October 1. :-) That would be Fiona’s Snowbound in the Earl’s Castle.

They all look wonderful. I have a collection of Christmas romances.

Snowed Over, my Christmas novella will be coming out in late October. I’m so glad to hear there is such a strong following of holiday books. Thanks for sharing.

Quite by accident I began my Christmas shopping two weeks ago when I found the perfect gift for … a relative. This is so Not Me. I rarely get started early. Will have to take note of a couple of those books, however. Not ready to turn up the air conditioning, but there’s room in the TBR pile. Carolyn’s cowboy looks like he could warm up a cold winter night :) .

Looking forward to reading the Christmas book reviews; I always like to find some new ones. And not only do the books come out in October but so do the Christmas DVDs–a lot of last year’s Hallmark Channel seasonal movies are being offered in October and “Arthur Christmas” will be out on DVD in November–can’t wait to add to my holiday collections.

Love Christmas books. Get one every year as part of my Christmas list, along with a Christmas DVD (love the Hallmark ones), a Hallmark ornament and a CD with Christmas music. Can never have too much holiday spirit.

For a change of pace, I’m one of four authors of A Door County Christmas (Barbour) now sold out in paperback but available digitally everywhere. Those same four authors just released a four-season novella collection–Cedar Creek Seasons–not too far from you, Barbara! Cedarburg, Wisconsin is the setting for these sweet, comedic romances. The final novella in the collection is the one I wrote–Maybe Us–and it centers on autumn and ends with Christmas. Ah, the cozy fires and crisp evening air!

My Mid-west theory is ‘if you aren’t changing your clothes four times a day, you aren’t living in the Mid-west in fall or spring.

Going from chilly to warm to warmest back to warm to brrrr, shut those windows!…a day in the Heartland.

Barabara–Here are three that I’m looking forward to (FYI–two are from authors I’ve helped promote, but I don’t represent these two books and the third I actually get to put in reviewers’ hands–just saying…full disclosure) Please look for these stories– Hope Ramsay’s LAST CHANCE CHRISTMAS, Paula Quinn’s e-original A HIGHLANDER FOR CHRISTMAS, and Jill Shalvis’s e-original UNDER THE MISTLETOE. Merry Christmas!
