What I Love About Books

Barbara Vey -- March 29th, 2012

The other day I wrote what bugs me about books, so today I thought I’d write about what I love about books.

1.  I love how they make me feel.  (Thanks romance)

2.  I love how most of the characters become like someone I’d want to hang around with.

3.  I love imagining myself living in different times and places.

4.  I love figuring out puzzles and who done it.

5.  I love picturing myself in the clothing of the time.

6.  I love knowing the secrets that the characters know.

7.  I love the adventures I’d never get to experience in my real life.

8.  I love being so engrossed that I don’t hear anything else around me.

9.  I love knowing that others enjoy the same thing I do so we can discuss it.

10.  I love to laugh, cry and yes, sometimes sing along with the characters.

This is my love letter to all the authors out there who have shared their imaginations and stories with me so I can escape, for a little while, into wondrous worlds.

What do you love about books?

Bottom Line:  The heck with Calgon.  Books…take me away…

I absolutely love this! Couldn’t have said it better myself! One of the things I love most about books is how they bring people together. My friends and I are constantly discussing our favorite books. It is also amazing how books can take you out of reality for a little while. :)

Wonderful blog today! Thanks for the great start to my day! I was up really late last night finishing up my latest read. I should know better than to start reading right before bedtime when I am about 80% done with a book. It always means I stay up too late, but I can’t help it!

Escape! and everything that Barbara said. Books are my escape, my stress-relief mechanism, my solace when the world is not such a nice place. I like knowing that in a moment I can go anywhere, be anyone, do anything. Gotta love books.

Love this response and feel exactly the same way. As Emily Dickinson wrote: “There is no frigate like a book, To take us lands away,”…

  3. Anne Norup

I’ve loved stories since childhood. If I’m not in the middle of a good book, there’s a sense of emptiness in my life. Like you, I love escaping into other worlds, time and places. I think that’s why I write too. I want to retreat into my story-dream and live with my characters for a spell. Thanks for the post!

  4. Dianna Love

GREAT blog, Barbara! I love the way a book takes me away from the world for a while where things are different and, because I read books that offer hope, I always feel good about the world when I’m finished.

I love the #3… being taken to a different dimension, time and place. Historical fiction authors like Philippa Gregory do just that! Along with Lisa See, Khaled Hosseini and others from whom there is alway so much to learn! Lovely post, Barbara! Another reason for authors to keep going!

When I was very young, books took me out of my very small world.
When I got older, books let me dream and expand my world so that it contained a past and a present and a future.
When I had children, books let them dream.
Now, books are my refuge, my imagination, my happiness when everything around me is turning desperately bad.
They are my escape to instant happiness.

I love the mystery. When you pick up a book, you never know what you’re going to get. Sometimes it can be five different books in the same genre, but the way the author speaks and unfolds a story makes them individuals all. I love getting favorite characters that are the type of person you could fall in love with or it makes you want to save them or whatever the characters purpose is. I mostly love that whether published or not, you could easily see yourself being an author or a writer. I also love how no matter what book it can reach someone’s inner soul on this planet and make them unafraid to be themselves. Keep on writing authors ^_^

    Totally agree with your list.

Plus, I would read a book before going to a movie since I can read the book again and again without shelling out for another ticket. One of the cheapest form of entertainment.

I love reading books because they take me to a new world, if at least for a little while. Also, they send me on adventures that I would normally ever get to experience.

Thanks for the suggestions you have provided here. On top of that, I believe there are numerous factors that will keep your auto insurance premium lower. One is, to consider buying cars and trucks that are in the good set of car insurance companies. Cars which might be expensive tend to be more at risk of being robbed. Aside from that insurance policies are also in line with the value of your car, so the higher priced it is, then the higher this premium you have to pay.
