There are many kinds of romance and to help promote the understanding, KT Grant from Babbling About Books, and More! is hosting a 2 week event. From Kate:
I welcome you to join me and others for the 2012 Lesbian Fiction Appreciation Event that starts on Saturday, January 7th and goes until Saturday, January 21st. This event is to promote the Lesbian Fiction/Romance genre where many participants from the Lesbian fiction world, ranging from authors, publishers and bloggers will talk about the Lesbian genre and why they write, publish and read Lesbian literature.
.
Why am I doing this? The main reason is as an author of Lesbian romance as KT Grant, I feel Lesbian fiction has a big readership. There has been much discussion recently on whether Lesbian fiction is as popular as Gay (M/M) and Straight fiction. There’s this belief that Lesbian Fiction doesn’t sell well and the authors who write it or not making any money. I put these false rumors to rest by posting my experience as an author of Lesbian romance and showing that Lesbian fiction does sell well and authors are making money. I’m proof of this because out of all my titles that range from M/M to Straight romance I’ve published over the past year and a half, my bestselling books are Lesbian romance. So, why not promote the Lesbian genre and highlight the authors, books and publishers who are part of this world?
.
Lesbian fiction may not seem to be a big market, but it’s slowly rising and making waves. I do believe in the next few years it will make its mark, much like M/M fiction/romance has done, and authors of Lesbian fiction will be recognized for their excellence and skill at writing engaging stories. The response for the event has been amazing. I reached out to various industry people, who were excited to take part, and the outpouring of interest is more than I could have ever imagined!
.
I hope the 2012 Lesbian Fiction Appreciation Event will raise awareness in the reading community and promote the authors and their books in a way where readers will open their minds to new types of literature.
.
Are you open to all kinds of romance? Have you read any lesbian fiction? Are they engaging as stories?

I figured that lesbian fiction was selling better than rumored because I’m seeing more of it available. Publishers won’t buy what they can’t sell. There’s room in the world of romance for all kinds of love and I suspect there’s an audience for almost anything we can dream up.
Barbara, your FB post caught my eye and I popped over, then saw the PFHT info on our anniversary. Thanks for including our information in the Monday Giveaways. Today’s giveaway is a chocolate themed basket!

I’m open to reading all kinds of romance as long as it’s a good read because that’s what it’s all about.
Hi Barbara, I agree. There are many love stories that are not traditional, but tell about a good love, and I think they sell. And I enjoy the HEA without a hook at the end!
Thanks for mentioning the Petit Fours and Hot Tamales 3rd anniversary and the give aways!
Thanks so much for allowing me to talk about my event!
Thanks for the heads up. Maybe just me, but I’m noticing an increase in more gay men interested in reading lesbian romances as well.

Barbara – One of the things we love about you is that you constantly broaden the world of books for all of us. Thanks for having such a positive and inclusive blog for all readers. And Good luck to you, KT, with your event. I’m with the others here who believe there is plenty of room in this world for all kinds of love. [*waving* at the Petit Four & Hot Tamales Girls]
Katherine V. Forrest wrote a classic lesbian romance in 1983 called “Curious Wine” that was reprinted in 2011. She also wrote 8 books featuring lesbian police detective Kate Delafield that are worth checking out if you can find them.
Barbara,
Thanks for the shout out about Petit Four and Hot Tamales. You’re a great friend to us and it is appreciated. Even better than that, you believe in reading.
I haven’t read any lesbian fiction, but a broader definition of love is on my heart. One of my sister-in-laws just lost her partner of 25 years and I grieve for her loss. Love is not limited.
Posting some love for KT Grant and Barbara Vey. KT writes romance that gives insight into non-traditional fictional romance in many forms, and I’m happy to see this event on Barbara’s blog.
@Mia–that is so sad. E-love to your SIL.

I don’t know where these rumors come from that Lesbian (Romance) fiction doesn’t sell. Of course it does. Ruth Gogoll is a Lesbian writer and publisher for over 15 years now and everybody can see that all her books sell well. Everybody knows “Taxi To Paris”.

The readers on http://www.elles-books.com will decide who wins the “el!es Lesbian Literary Award”, so anybody’s got a chance.
People say that lesbian fiction doesn’t sell, but I’ve got more than I could read in my lifetime and authors and publishers keep sending me more, so that even with a team of reviewers there are still more waiting to be reviewed! If lesbian books don’t sell, then it sure is a mystery how there are so many! (And look at Sarah Waters and Jeanette Winterson for proof that lesbian books can too sell to a huge audience.)

Thanks for your publication on the traveling industry. I’d personally also like to add that if you’re a senior contemplating traveling, it can be absolutely essential that you buy travel cover for golden-agers. When traveling, senior citizens are at biggest risk of getting a health care emergency. Getting the right insurance policies package to your age group can look after your health and provide you with peace of mind.

Thanks for your article. It is extremely unfortunate that over the last several years, the travel industry has had to handle terrorism, SARS, tsunamis, bird flu, swine flu, along with the first ever true global economic downturn. Through it the industry has proven to be strong, resilient as well as dynamic, locating new methods to deal with misfortune. There are usually fresh troubles and chance to which the market must just as before adapt and react.
There are definitely a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a nice point to carry up. I offer the thoughts above as basic inspiration but clearly there are questions just like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, however I’m sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both girls and boys really feel the impact of only a moment’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.
