Yesterday, Michaela Basham contacted me and asked for my help in spreading the word about L. A. Banks. As usual, the romance community is rallying around one of their own in her time of need. According to Michaela:
L.A. Banks has been diagnosed with late stage adrenal cancer and is very ill. She is currently in a Philadelphia Hospital receiving treatment, but it is an uphill battle. Her best friend, Tina Wise is asking for donations on a Facebook page and a page specifically for Leslie (L.A.) here.
I had the pleasure of meeting Leslie a few years ago and although she didn’t know me, she wanted to get to know me. She was incredibly kind, supportive, and encouraging to me as an aspiring author. So, I have decided to set up a charity auction on eBay to help her family cover the astronomical medical costs she is incurring. I am a reviewer on the Wicked Lil Pixie blog, so we are using that as a staging area to ask for donations and direct people to the auctions on eBay as soon as they start. If we receive enough donations, we hope to hold the auction next week, otherwise we will hold it the week after RWA. Right now you can get information about donating here.
All of the proceeds earned from the auction will go to Leslie’s family, save for the amount needed to cover the posting costs and commission eBay charges (I don’t have the funds to cover that myself). It will be posted when the auction is set to begin. Right now we are looking for anyone who would like to donate books, critiques, or anything else, please e-mail me at michaela.a.b83@gmail.com.
I met L.A. at the first RT convention I attended just weeks after starting this blog. She was gracious and welcoming. Over the years Leslie has written many wonderful books and been very generous with her time. Now it’s time for us to be generous. Please consider offering something or bidding on an item if you are able.

I met her for the first time this past RT in LA. We sat on a panel together talking about multi-cultural romance. She is one of the sweetest, most openly giving authors I’ve ever met. This is horrible. I’m sending my donation now. Thanks for letting us know, Barbara.

So sorry to hear about this. I am a jewelry designer as well as a voracious reader, though I have not read her books. I have done a lot of ebay charity auctions donating my jewelry. Please let me know how I can donate or set up ebay or etsy listings to donate the proceeds to this cause. My specialty is picture charms. I would probably do some charm bracelets using the pictures of her book covers.
