Literacy Benefits from The Novel: Live Book

Barbara Vey -- February 1st, 2011

The Novel: Live is asking for your help on Facebook and since they raised money for literacy, that’s a plus in my book.  From their page:

36 Authors. 6 Days. 1 Blockbuster Novel. Can you help us name it?

Last fall, 36 well-known authors in the Northwest gathered together to write a complete novel in just six days, live before an audience. The project tightened the bond between readers and writers, and raised money for literacy. The finished product will soon be published as a 60,000 word e-riginal novel by Open Road Media in May 2011, featuring the talented Seattle7Writers Garth Stein and Jennie Shortridge, and bestselling authors Jamie Ford, Elizabeth George, Erik Larson, Kevin O’Brien, and Nancy Rawles, among many others.

Over the past month, we’ve been collecting title suggestions on the Facebook Wall and in the discussion board. Based on those suggestions, we’ve come up with 3 final contenders for the title! Please read the chapter here, and then hop over to our Poll to vote on the book’s official title! (For more info about the project, check out our Discussions section.)

I’ll pass on dressing naked today. I’m wearing my snow shoveling clothes. Otherwise it would be a little when I go out there.

Now I’m off to check out Jaime’s contest. I love first lines.

Thanks for note about The Novel Live! We had fun doing it, and it was extra cool to hand over the money to Writers in the Schools, a local Seattle-based children’s literacy organization. The finished novel is pretty darn good too. But a title always helps–thanks in advance to all who put in their two cents.

  3. Jennie Shortridge

Thanks, Barbara, for the post! The Novel: Live has been such an enriching experience for authors and readers, just in the creation of it, and we’re so excited that it will have life in e-book form! Profits from the sale of “Hotel Angeline: A Novel in 36 Voices” will continue to benefit literacy, and it’s a really fun read! I hope you’ll check out the final book when it’s published May 3!
