The Mega Millions lottery is over $330 million and I broke down and bought a ticket last night. Obviously, I didn’t win or I would be doing something totally different today. Instead I’ll just kick back with a book or two today and enjoy what I do have. Here’s what the WW Ladies have been reading and listening to over the holidays.

In Too Deep by Jayne Ann Krentz
Listened to by joysann
The new employee at Jones and Jones Paranormal Investigations in Scargill Cove, California, is a woman with secrets of her own, on the run for her life. Reclusive Fallon Jones quickly recognizes her talent as a valuable asset to his business, but more surprisingly realizes that Isabella Valdez understands the nature of his talent and his often paranoid thought processes. Together they work on recovering dangerous Victorian Era mechanisms of magic before they fall into unscrupulous hands, at the same time finding hope and passion in each other.
I am alway delighted when a new Arcane Society book comes out, whether it is historical (Amanda Quick), contemporary (Jayne Ann Krentz), or futuristic (Jayne Castle). In Too Deep is the first in the new Looking Glass Trilogy, and I was excited to find out more about Fallon Jones, an enigmatic presence in the other present-day stories. The story, which was mysterious and romantic, had me so engrossed that I hated to push the pause button.

After the Evil by Cary Allen Stone
Read by Michelle
Jake Roberts is on leave after being shot and having to kill a young girl in the process. Now there is a serial killer in town that brings Jake’s old flame Mika Scott and her team at the FBI to investigate. The sexual tension mounts between Jake and Mika while they track a killer who is castrating their victims.
A gripping psychological thriller! Each page I turned lead me deeper into the damaged mind of the killer. I appreciated the pace as well as the easy banter of the characters.

Wicked Highlander by Donna Grant
Read by Melissa
Trapped inside his enemy’s mountain, Highlander Quinn MacLeod seeks nothing but vengeance, and a way back to his brothers. When the evil Deirdre casts the beautiful Marcail into the pit as bait, Quinn is quickly lured in by her beauty and innocence.
Donna Grant delivers another amazing Warrior tale, filled with a beautiful love story, while making me crave more of the warriors and their fight to overcome the evil Deirdre. The world she’s built is dark, dangerous, and delicious!

Danger in Red Dress by Christina Dodd
Listened to by joyann
Hannah Grey, a home care nurse, is falsely accused of murdering her wealthy patient, and, burdened with a valuable secret, must run for her life and freedom. Before the murder occurred security expert Gabriel Prescott had been charged with monitoring the invalid woman and Hannah to prevent that very scenario from happening. Now he’s out to capture Hannah at all costs, but his professional motives are mixed with the unexpected passion he’s developed for her.
It is very titillating to watch Hannah and Gabriel circle around each other with distrust confused with acute attraction. I enjoyed the tension as it developed, and the growing romance was provocative. Christina Dodd’s contemporary romantic suspense makes a superb audiobook entertainment.

Six Graves to Munich by Mario Puzo
Read by Michelle
American Michael Rogan has a vendetta. There are seven men he needs to kill to avenge his wife’s torture and death along with their unborn child. Rogan was tortured and humiliated by these men in order to give them access to the codes the U.S. Military was using during WWII. What the men don’t know is that Rogan didn’t die when they executed him. The struggles he faces with his own character along his journey and the search for humanity keep the pages turning.
I was entertained by the premise of the book and getting to know Rogan. The story illustrates that happiness doesn’t come from getting even.
