Moving Day

Barbara Vey -- March 18th, 2014

moving dayToday is kind of bittersweet.  It is my last day at Publishers Weekly and after today you can find me at  When I started here 7 years ago, I said I would only do it for 3 months.  At that time, I had never written anything longer than a grocery list and I had no idea what a blog was.  I can still remember asking PW to send me “How to” book about blogging, but at that time, there weren’t that many blogs around, so they told me to write whatever I wanted.

PW was just starting their online presence and I was invited along.  My thanks to Karen Holt for seeing something in me that I didn’t know was there and to Sara Nelson for her encouragement along the way.

All at once, my blog just took off.  There was a need to be filled and apparently, Beyond Her Book, was at the right place, at the right time.  I was invited to New York to speak with the other bloggers about how to write a successful blog.  It was an honor I’ll never forget.  I got to ride the subway for the first time, I never took so many taxis, walked so much, ate New York Pizza and was the total tourist geek.

top 10I got to travel all over the world and meet amazing people.  Not bad for a second career.

My top 10 Favorite things I’ve done at Beyond Her Book:

Well, guess this is it… at PW, anyway. I’ve been privileged and honored to be allowed to tell my adventures over the years, like meeting wonderful folks at Lori Foster’s Reader/Author Get-Together ( and having sensational experiences at Ellora’s Cave’s rockin’ RomantiCon ( ) celebrations. RWA’s, RT’s and numerous more local, smaller venues… I’d have had none of it, if not for you. Thanks for the experience and the experiences, thanks for the opportunities, thanks for all the wonderful new friends I’ve made because of you and your blog. Best to you always, and, well, you’re not rid of me yet. See you later, at and beyond!

Oh, Barbara, how I’ll miss seeing you here for this is where we met and then we got to meet in person. You are fun and have great integrity. I’ll see you at your new home. Hugs, VB

  3. Dianna Love

I’m amazed they’re letting you leave considering the droves of fans who crowd you at events, but I love your new home at and see that many others are excited to be there, too (plus all the chatter on social network about this – you’ve hit celebrity status!). Here’s a latte to you for seven years of connecting readers and authors that will now continue at your new site where I’ll see you tomorrow for your party!! Excited for you!

Oh, goodbye to PW, too, and thank you for discovering Barbara. It was fun while you gave us a place to hang out.

So sorry to see you leaving PW, Barbara but I love your new home and I’ll be by to visit often to chat about…well, everything! Thanks for all you’ve done for writers and our books over the years!

Daisy, I really don’t know the answer to your question. I was just told that PW would be closing down all blogs but one, so I’m sad to see romance go. It was wonderful knowing you and hope to see you at future events.

  6. Jacqui Sue-Ping

Well it was fun while it lasted here at PW and I want to thank them for giving you and in turn us readers a safe and fun place to hang out. I’m sad that PW is shutting down Beyond Her Book but very RELIEVED that you’re going to be hanging out at your own site.

Cheers and hugs to your new endeavors, dear Barbara.

(now I’m going to your site to say hello! :D )

I already left a comment on your blog this morning and had originally decided against commenting here. Yet I decided PW needed to know a couple things.
    1. Thank you for giving us the incredible Barbara Vey.
    2. It is a mistake to close down this blog. We romance readers are important and Barbara is important to us.

Now that being said I’m sure Barbara is off to bigger and better things. I, for one, know I’ll see her around. :)

Very bittersweet! My memories here began on your 3rd anniversary bash, and just kept getting better. I know the fun times will continue on your awesome site! Congratulations on all you have accomplished and good luck on all that is yet to come!!! Thank you for everything!

Barbara ~ you will be greatly missed here. Thankfully for readers and authors alike you’re not disappearing but just migrating. Thank you for all your wonderful posts that made us laugh, made us cry but especially made us discover more lovely books!!

All the best ~ Mary B

I don’t know why, but I assumed you were leaving to continue your blog on your own site by choice. Sad that PW made the call. I know blogs aren’t what they used to be (I’ve been blogging since 2001) but sites like this have some features that are stand-out that people do visit to enhance the brand. Your blog is partly how I came to know RWA, which has changed my focus as a writer. So thank you!

Barbara, what a milestone day! Your blog has become such a fixture! Looking forward to seeing your new home. Thank you so much for all your wonderful support for the romance genre and romance writers and I wish you all the best with new projects!

Wishing you the best of luck with your move, Barbara! Thanks for all the hard work you have done on behalf of Romance. Looking forward to seeing you around Romanceland, both virtual and real-life. :)

Barbara, you are such a treasure, and I can’t wait to see what new fun ideas you hatch in your new “digs.” One of the many things I love about you, besides your honesty and that dazzling smile, is your insight into and devotion to the reader. You “get” how important books are to them, and when you offer advice to authors you always have the welfare of readers foremost in your mind.

Hugs and best wishes for your continued success!

I have already bookmarked the new place for fun and info. I look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks at the Readers Luncheon. The Petit Fours and Hot Tamales have been honored to be your friend.
