Today, Oceanhouse Media, the company that’s been dutifully bringing classic Dr. Seuss e-book apps the the iPhone and iPad, announced that two of those titles are now available for Android devices as well. You can now buy Android app versions of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat in the Android Market. Each app costs $3.99.
In developing its apps, Oceanhouse has taken care to stick very close to the original book while adding a few nice enhancements, including text that’s read aloud when the words are tapped, subtle sound effects, and smooth panning around the illustrations to add some action. But the nice thing about these apps is that using them still counts as good old-fashioned reading.
This might make nice holiday gifts for the tech-savvy toddler in your life. As new Android powered tablets begin to really hit the market in the next few months, it will become increasingly important for the content we’ve been consuming on iOS devices to be available on Android as well.
