It looks like the 2010 holiday season will once again be all about e-readers. B&N just introduced the Nook Color, Apple is filling stores with iPads, and folks interested in getting into e-readers have lots of choices. We’re curious as to whether PWxyz readers will be buying e-readers for others or for themselves as gifts. We hope you’ll respond to the poll below and tell us if you think you’ll be stuffing stockings with e-readers.

Regular bound books are all I need. eReaders are not my thing. My family feels the same way, so no one will be giving or receiving any eReaders.
Now that Kindle has joined the Nook with the lending feature, I wonder if either will ever have a feature where you could download an e-book as a gift to another’s e-reader. If you plan to give a book as a gift, which format would you buy?
I read on my iPhone…don’t need an eReader.
I thought the reason e-book purchases are tied to the credit card of the purchaser only is because of digital rights management rules–not returns and exchanges. The DRM is tied to the credit card number, kind of like the book checks to make sure you are the authorized leasee of the book, and there’s no way to transfer that in a gift. (I don’t think e-books ARE returnable; they’re like CDs; if you open it, it’s yours).

I bought my Nook in July, my Kindle in Sept. I don’t want or need another.
… no “none of the above” huh?
LOL

Oh wait, I see you have “Other.” I guess I was an “other” when I bought mine!
You left off “netbook.” I just bought one a couple of months ago and one of the prime reasons was so that I could take it for travel–and read e-books!!!
Maria
That’s interesting–and it’s working well…
I am saving money and hope to buy a Kindle around the holidays. Ideally, there would be one e-reader that would accommodate ALL forms of ebooks. After/when I get a Kindle, I’ll look around for something that will let me read all of the PDF’s etc currently on my laptop.
The new color Nook looks interesting but I like the Kindle better, based on my research.
Sounds like you want an iPad–you’ve got apps from all the various companies, plus great apps for reading PDFs.
FYI PDF’s can be read on the kindle.

My wife and I already got our NOOKs (which we like very much, thank you) back in March. Buying another e-reader would be superfluous. I haven’t bought a paper book since, although my wife’s bought a couple.
Choosing between “buying an e-reader” and “buying a book” seems a bit odd. No option for “buying an e-book”. It’s unfortunate that none of the major e-bookstores allow gifting of specific e-book titles; the best you can do is to give a gift card. (Probably something to do with handling returns and exchanges.)
But then, I wouldn’t want someone else to choose my reading material, and I’m not about to choose theirs for them. To me it would seem quite arrogant, but obviously many people don’t feel that way.
I already own a Kindle, but I’m looking at a Nook as well. There are some titles that have become available for Nook but not Amazon.
I believe your poll is flawed because of the qualifier you put on the “none” option. I will not be buying an e-reader but that’s not because “this will be an unliterary holiday season.” Pretty much everyone I buy presents for at the holiday season receives at least one book, and my wish list is dominated by books. I just prefer to stick to books made out of paper.
Of course! I know! I added paper books to the poll, but it took a second to update…
why isn’t “None, I’ll be buying books” an option?
it is! Good Ole’ dead tree books. I was trying to be cute
oh dear! I need to fix the poll! Dead tree books is supposed to be there! Hold on!
