The Word Made Flesh – book trailer from Tattoolit on Vimeo.
Do you have a tattoo? Tweety Bird? A Mermaid? A heart with an anchor going through it with the word “Mom” on top? Well, two young writers noticed a different kind of phenomenon–they noticed lots of people are getting literary tattoos: quotes or illustrations from all kinds of books, as you can see in the book trailer above. The results of their investigation will be published as The Word Made Flesh, a beautiful illustrated book from Harper Perennial next month.
This blogger is thinking of getting a literary tattoo, actually, that says “Renowned curator Jacques Sauniere staggered through the vaulted archway of the museum’s Grand Gallery.” That’ll look awesome.

I have the reverse situation. I have my husband’s name tattooed on my arm (see photo on FB) and Colin Mort (now at U of Tenn) used that imagery in a short story in Virginia Quarterly Review, summer 2006. But I was completely inspired by the video, and am heading to the bookcase and piggy bank after this. I haven’t gotten a tattoo in over ten years, I’m probably due for number 7. Maybe for my 51st birthday. Gotta haul out the Cheever short stories I guess.

Please get the PWxyz facebook page going…not everyone likes Twitter.
I’ve been thinking about getting my first tattoo–of Shakespeare. (The man). However beautiful his words, he was…well, not the most attractive man! This article has inspired me to find my favorite line(s) and do that instead. Something wonderful–close to my heart. GREAT article! Thanks!!
I partial to Bob Dylan, so maybe I’d get the “eye of Bob” and a lyric such as “don’t think twice”
Dasheen,
Anytime…maybe I have a future in literary tattoo consulting lol.
These quotes are from my new book, pre-agent blurb stage, The World’s Most Creative (And Dangerous) Quote Book,www.knowords.com.

I am in your debt for that one. It is surely a keeper and I am considering the best place to display it as I type. lol
This is awesome! I just did a post on literary tattoos last month. I was trying to find literary tattoos related to some of my favorite books! I cannot wait until this book comes out!!

Excellent idea for a tattoo hehe.
My choice? The opening line from The Tin Drum.
“Granted: I am an inmate of a mental hospital; my keeper is watching me, he never lets me out of his sight; there’s a peephole in the door, and my keeper’s eye is the shade of brown that can never see through a blue-eyed type like me.”
