PW Alum Stars in Shteyngart Trailer

Former bookroom assistant Wancy Cho in the trailer for Gary Shteyngart's new novel

You might remember Wancy Cho as the helpful gentleman on the other end of the line when you called, or were called by, the PW Reviews department.

From that humble beginning, he has risen to great heights, with a starring role in the hilarious trailer for Gary Shteyngart’s new novel, Super Sad True Love Story, which PW called a “profane and dizzying satire.”

Wancy, a fiction writer himself, is featured in the scene in which Shteyngart teaches a creative writing seminar on “how to behave at a Paris Review party.”  That’s Wancy practicing the correct technique for pretentiously shaking a drink while extolling the virtues of early Ian McEwan over late Ian McEwan.

A moment later the camera pans over to actor James Franco, also a creative writing student of Shteyngart’s, but his performance, while highly skilled and obviously professional, pales in comparison to our Wancy’s.

Check back later for an interview with Wancy, in which he tells all about the making of the trailer, and talks about the tremendous impact it’s having on his own literary career.  Congrats Wancy!  We’re all very proud.
